Food Insecurity in Texas and Erath County

A recent study by the Tarrant Area Food Bank and Feed America, states that approximately 1 in 6 Erath County residents are living without enough food and more than 1 in 4 local children are at risk of hunger.

Of the Erath County children facing hunger, 19% are ineligible for government assistance programs or free or reduced-price school meals because of their family's income.

In Texas, the rate of child food-insecurity is 28% (1 in 3). of those 1,871,600 food-insecure children, one-third live in households with incomes high enough to disqualify them from most national nutrition assistance programs.

Food insecurity refers to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's measure of lack of access to enough nutritious food.  Any degree of food insecurity can lead to malnutrition and chronic hunger.

What Your Gift Can Do

A donation of $1.00 helps distribute enough food for 5 meals, according to the latest formula provided by Feeding America.

Contributions help feed children.  More than one-third of the individuals receiving food assistance are children.  Your generosity can make the difference between a child going to school hungry or arriving at school fed and ready to learn.

Contributions help supplement the meager meals of elderly neighbors and or severely disabled Texans who live on fixed incomes and often have to choose between buying either prescription medicines or groceries.

Contributions provide food on the tables of households headed by minimum-wage workers and temporarily unemployed wage-earners struggling to pay their bills.
